Osumenyi murder: Police arrest suspects

AWKA— Anambra State Police Command said yesterday it had arrested some people suspected to be involved in the recent murder of the President-General of Osumenyi Development Union, Chief Chinyeluba Akunedozi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, who confirmed the arrest, however, did not disclose the number of people arrested as he explained that investigations into the matter were continuing.
He denied that the police was shielding some people allegedly linked with the murder, adding that the outcome of the investigation would reveal the details.
Akunedozi was assassinated at his gate at Osumenyi after presiding over a general meeting of the town last month at about 5. 00p.m.

He was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor.
Meanwhile, officials of ODU have urged the police to ensure that justice was done in the matter, as the community was anxiously waiting for the result.
First Vice President-General of ODU, Mr. Celestine Obi-Oguatu, who addressed newsmen in Awka yesterday, said fear has gripped the entire community, especially when there had been consistent murder of ODU officials since 2008.
He said:  “The entire Osumenyi community has been thrown into sudden mourning of a man who gave himself and resources in the service of his people.
“We have officially informed His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, and notified Anambra State Association of Town Unions about this wicked act.”
